"Too many books?" I believe the phrase you’re looking for is "not enough bookshelves".
I know myself. But that is all.
"When you achieve something, you don’t actually realize you’ve achieved anything. It’s only afterwards when you’ve lost it that you realize you’ve lost it."
“Many nights he lay there dreaming awake of secret cafés in Mont Marte, where ivory women delved in romantic mysteries with diplomats and soldiers of fortune, while orchestras played Hungarian waltzes and the air was thick and exotic with intrigue and moonlight and adventure.”
- F. Scott Fitzgerald, This Side of Paradise
"The only girl I’ve ever loved,
Was born with roses in her eyes.
But then they buried her alive,
One evening, 1945."
Holland, 1945, Neutral Milk Hotel
Learnt an interesting thing today on this arabic course,
The original Arabic number system looked like this, the one we now use.
It was designed so each character had the corresponding number of angles to the number, so the number 1 has 1 angle, 2 has 2 angles, 3 has 3, 0 has none etc…
It is so obvious now, I’ve always assumed its one of those things that just is, with no logical explanation, but here it is, perfectly simple and satisfying
"I wanted love to conquer all. But love can’t conquer anything. It can’t do anything on its own. It relies on us to do the conquering on its behalf."
A, Every Day by David Levithan
"it’s so cute - there are like two hundred different emotions that flash across his face when he says her name - everything from extreme anxiety to utter bliss."
Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan
Many’s the time I’ve been mistaken,
And many times confused
And I’ve often felt forsaken,
And certainly misused.
But it’s all right, it’s all right,
I’m just weary to my bones
Still, you don’t expect to be
Bright and bon vivant
So far away from home,
So far away from home.
I don’t know a soul who’s not been battered,
Don’t have a friend who feels at ease,
Don’t know a dream that’s not been shattered
Or driven to its knees.
But it’s all right, all right,
We’ve lived so well so long.
Still, when I think of the road we’re travelling on,
I wonder what went wrong,
I can’t help it
I wonder what went wrong.
"On the way downtown I stopped at a bar and had a couple of double Scotches. They didn’t do me any good. All they did was make me think of Silver Wig, and I never saw her again."
Raymond Chandler, The Big Sleep (1939)
